In my jewelry I express my love of pattern and movement. Each piece demands attention. The jewels beg to be held, examined and played with. To enhance the pattern and kinetic movement in my work I use contrasting metals like darkened sterling silver and 18k gold. The precious and semi precious gems I love for their beauty, natural color and varied crystallization.
My artistic vision shifts from micro to macro examining pattern, growth, and construction of the natural and created world. Nature has crafted so many lovely and perfect things. I strive to impart that same quality with fine craftsmanship and enduring beauty in my jewelry. One way I do this is by using recycled metals and gem materials of the Americas. Inspiration for my jewelry comes from a deep appreciation for nature and our interaction with it. I explore the building blocks of form. In micro; cells, molecules, proteins, minerals, are the basis of our existence. In macro all combine to be realized as one’s self, our environment, our homes, and all between. Making Art to wear is personal and social. Historically jewelry is ripe with meaning. From engagement ring to commemorative metal, jewelry represents us. We apply our own associative understanding to the art we witness. Wearing Art Jewelry invites conversation and real physical interaction like no other art form. |
