Representing Finely Hand Crafted Jewelry
Jessica Fields
Jessica Fields, one of the most dynamic new designers in the jewelry arena, relies on ancient history as her most divine inspiration. “I think turning to the greatest times in our design history is the best influence I can have,” states Fields. Enamored by the splendor and intricacy of Greco-Roman and Byzantine period jewelry, Fields has shaped her passion into a collection of classic, breathtaking beauty.

At age 32 this exciting young designer can already boast a career change, having left the publishing industry to pursue the career she envisioned back in high school in Rye, New York. It was then that Fields fell in love with the delicate, colorful, beaded chains by jewelry great Reinstein/Ross and ran, not walked, to the nearest art supply store to find the means to create her own interpretations. “I realized right then that I loved to create things with my hands,” says Fields. “I dabbled in all sorts of crafts, but I always came back to jewelry.”

After high school she headed to the University of Michigan, where she threw herself into college life with abandon, taking a class in just about every subject the school had to offer. With a BA in English Literature, Fields moved to New York City and began at Harry N. Abrams, a well-respected publisher of illustrated art books. She then moved on to the popular Zagat Survey books, all the while nurturing her desire to return to jewelry design. The decision made, Fields enrolled at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology to further her studies in jewelry design and goldsmithing in depth. And the rest is history.

Fields infuses her unique18K gold pieces with a delicate, yet strong, design aesthetic, combining antiquity with a modern slant. Color, often reminiscent of brilliant stained glass, ignites the collection. Garnets, sapphires, carnelian and diamonds and other precious and semi-precious stones abound, sprinkling necklaces, rings, bracelets and graceful drop earrings. Many necklaces reflect one of Fields’ signature looks, encircling the neck in classic Greco-Roman collar styling. Along with the Greco-Roman period Fields calls upon the intricate, glittering works of the Byzantine period, the bold designs of Indian jewelry as well as the expressive, colorful Art Nouveau period for design ideas.

Sources of inspiration seem to be as boundless as this young designer’s energy – she continuously adds new pieces to existing lines and plans to add new collections yearly. Fields is also courting the bridal realm with a gorgeous bridal collection that weaves pearls, diamonds and delicately crafted gold into wedding magic. Throughout her collections Fields conveys the beauty and grandeur of some of our most important times in history. “I want people to feel like royalty when they wear my jewelry,” Fields says. “There is a bit of history in every piece I design.”
